Congress MP Manish Tewari on Wednesday submitted an adjournment motion notice in the Lok Sabha, calling for a debate on the border situation and significant trade deficit with China. Tewari's motion requests the suspension of parliamentary business to discuss these urgent matters of national importance.
"Since 2019, India and China have been engaged in border clashes, particularly in Eastern Ladakh," Tewari stated. "Recent intelligence indicates China has completed a 400-meter bridge that enables rapid troop movements across the Pangong Lake. Additionally, India's trade deficit with China has hit USD 85 billion in 2023-24."
On Tuesday, Tewari reiterated the call for discussion, emphasizing the need for government action. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has noted that Indo-China relations remain strained due to China's 2020 border force deployments. Jaishankar emphasized that normal relations can be restored only if China respects existing agreements and the Line of Actual Control.
