Vedanta group subsidiary Hindustan Zinc Ltd (HZL) reiterated its dedication to future innovations by exploring zinc applications in battery technology on Monday.

HZL Chairperson Priya Agarwal Hebbar confirmed the company's focus on volume enhancement, cost reduction, and stakeholder value addition alongside this new venture.

The move aims to propel HZL's role in the global shift toward clean energy technologies.

Hebbar emphasized the growing importance of climate-friendly technologies, which are highly mineral-intensive, and the significant role of the metals and mining sector in this transition.

Zinc could potentially replace lithium in batteries due to its safety and stability, noted CEO Arun Misra, highlighting the limited domestic availability and safety issues of lithium.

Hindustan Zinc, one of the world's largest integrated producers of zinc, lead, and silver, continues to explore new applications to aid the global energy transition.
