BJD Rajya Sabha member Sasmit Patra on Monday made a compelling argument for the revision of coal royalty in Odisha, highlighting that the rates have been stagnant for 12 years, leading to an annual loss of Rs 10,000 crore for the state.
During Zero Hour in Rajya Sabha, Patra pointed out that despite Odisha being one of the top coal-producing states, its legitimate demand for royalty revision has been ignored, depriving the state of crucial funds that could be used for development.
In a non-political stance, Patra stressed that this issue needs immediate attention for the sake of the people who are suffering in Odisha, urging the government to address it promptly.
