The Special Inspector General of Police (Cyber Crimes department of Maharashtra), Yashasvi Yadav, announced on Friday that Anjali Birla, daughter of Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, was the target of a baseless slander campaign. Doubts were cast over Anjali Birla's UPSC qualifications, alleging she joined through non-meritorious means.

Due to this defamatory campaign, seven to eight Twitter and Instagram accounts were identified. The Maharashtra cyber department has filed a First Information Report (FIR) and has summoned these account holders, including a parody account of Dhruv Rathee, who has since apologized and deleted his posts.

On Tuesday, the Delhi High Court directed Google Inc. and X Corp (formerly Twitter) to remove posts falsely alleging that Anjali Birla passed the UPSC exams due to her father's influence. Justice Navin Chawla issued an interim order for the removal of such content within 24 hours and restrained defendants from further defamatory remarks.
