Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami paid tribute to the Kargil martyrs at Shaheed Smarak during a ceremony at Gandhi Park on Kargil Vijay Diwas. The Chief Minister also honored the families of the martyrs.

On the occasion, Dhami announced the increase of the ex-gratia grant for martyred soldiers' families from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 50 lakh. Additionally, the window for applying for government jobs will be extended from 2 years to 5 years. Dependents will now be eligible for Group 'C' and 'D' roles across various departments, and Sainik Welfare Department contractors will receive leave benefits similar to Upanal employees.

"Our brave soldiers showed extraordinary courage during the Kargil War, earning global respect for their valor. Uttarakhand will always honor the sacrifice of its 75 sons," Dhami stated. As a soldier's son, Dhami shared a personal connection to the struggles faced by military families.

Dhami praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi's efforts in modernizing the military and enhancing the welfare of soldiers and their families. He also mentioned that PM Modi paid homage to martyrs at the Kargil War Memorial in Ladakh and hinted at future reservations for Agniveers in government jobs.
