In a daring rescue operation, the Indian Coast Guard successfully evacuated 14 mariners from the stranded vessel JSW Raigad off the Raigad coast on Friday. Inspector General Bhisham Sharma, Regional Commander (West), assured that there is no threat to the marine environment and that the situation is being closely monitored.
The rescue mission commenced at approximately 13:30 hours on Thursday when Coast Guard ship Sankalp received information about the distressed merchant vessel. Due to bad weather, the vessel had run aground at Alibag, leading to flooding in the engine room. Swift action was taken by the Coast Guard to deploy a helicopter for the evacuation.
Despite challenging conditions limiting air operations, all 14 crew members were successfully disembarked at Alibaug Beach on Friday morning without any injuries. Local authorities, in coordination with ICG Station Murud Janjira, are providing further medical aid and support to the mariners. The Coast Guard remains vigilant in their commitment to maritime safety.
