Delhi University on Friday announced strict penalties for ragging, including suspension, expulsion, degree cancellation, and barring from classes and exams. This comes as the university aims to ensure a safer campus environment for the upcoming academic session.

During a Proctorial Board meeting held on July 25, the university discussed measures to curb ragging. The punishments listed include suspension, expulsion, cancellation of degree, withholding of results, and cancellation of admission. Colleges and departments have been instructed to enforce these regulations strictly.

The notification also mandated that all students and hostel residents sign an anti-ragging undertaking upon admission. DU will observe Anti-Ragging Day on August 12, followed by Anti-Ragging Week from August 12 to 18, to raise awareness about the consequences of ragging.

To ensure quick action against ragging incidents, two joint control rooms will be operational on the North and South campuses from August 1 to August 10, 2024. Students can report ragging through various channels, including the UGC Anti-Ragging Helpline and local police contacts.

Colleges and hostels have been instructed to restrict outsider entry and prominently display anti-ragging posters. Anti-Ragging Committees and Vigilance Squads will monitor activities, and police pickets will be stationed outside every college, with special assistance for women's colleges. Plainclothes women officers will patrol the campuses to handle cases of ragging and eve-teasing.
