The national capital woke up to light rain early on Thursday morning, providing relief from the persistently humid weather. Visuals from Lajpat Nagar and ITO show commuters braving the downpour on their way to work.

Delhi-NCR experienced a heavy spell of rain on Wednesday, causing severe waterlogging in multiple areas, including the Zakhira underpass, NH-24 highway, Moti Bagh, Tughlaq road, Akshardham flyover, and RK Puram. In response, the Delhi Traffic Police issued an advisory about heavy traffic at Mahatma Gandhi Marg due to extensive waterlogging at Nigam Bodh Ghat.

The advisory highlighted Chandgi Ram Akhara as the diversion point, and police enforced traffic diversions. Delhi recorded 108 mm of rain by 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

Earlier, on Monday, heavy rainfall unexpectedly hit parts of Delhi. In June, the city saw the highest rainfall in 88 years, with 228 mm recorded from 8:30 a.m. on June 27 to 8:30 a.m. on June 28.

Overall, 235.5 mm of rain was recorded, marking the highest 24-hour rainfall in June since 1936. The elevated rain levels caused the Yamuna River to rise, leading authorities to alert Noida villagers along the riverbanks.

These areas experienced severe floods last monsoon, posing significant inconvenience to residents. Meanwhile, heavy rains have disrupted life in Gujarat, creating flood-like conditions in various districts.

In the past 24 hours, eight lives were lost to the deluge, raising the death toll to 61, officials reported on Wednesday. Relief Commissioner Alok Pandey stated that rescue operations continue in Dwarka and Surat, aimed at aiding affected residents and managing the crisis. (ANI)
