Himachal Pradesh is set to host the Paragliding World Cup India 2024 in the picturesque Bir Billing Valley from November 2 to 9. This major event, supported by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu's administration, aims to boost the region's tourism prospects.

The Billing Paragliding Association, in collaboration with Being Creative and backed by Himachal Tourism, will organize the event. It is expected to draw participants and spectators from over 40 countries. Competitors will be selected based on global and national rankings and will tackle cross-country tasks spanning distances of 100 to 200 kilometers daily. During a press briefing in Shimla, Chief Minister Sukhu emphasized Bir Billing's status as the world's premier paragliding destination.

Sukhu highlighted that tourism is Himachal Pradesh's top priority, with plans to develop Kangra as the state's tourism capital. Additionally, hydro and renewable energy sectors are set as secondary priorities. He expressed pride in hosting participants from 40 to 45 countries and acknowledged Anurag Sharma of the Paragliding Association for his contributions. The event will also feature a Himachal Paragliding Festival to showcase India's cultural arts, adventure sports, wellness, literature, and entertainment. Various initiatives have been announced to promote 'Women in Paragliding' and highlight India's cultural arts at the opening and closing ceremonies.

The Paragliding World Cup India 2024 promises to enhance local tourism and create employment opportunities. Anurag Sharma, President of the Billing Paragliding Association, noted that the event is accredited by the Paragliding World Cup Association and recognized by the Federation Aeronautique Internationale (FAI). Safety measures will include helicopters and ground rescue teams at strategic locations, along with cultural evenings and adventure sports performances for a comprehensive visitor experience.
