A joint operation by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police in Kupwara's Kowut area resulted in the neutralization of a terrorist and injury to a Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO). The operation began based on intelligence reports indicating terrorist presence ahead of July 23.

Troops detected suspicious movement on July 24, prompting them to challenge the individuals. The terrorists responded with indiscriminate firing, leading to a fierce exchange. During this encounter, one terrorist was killed while an NCO sustained injuries and has been evacuated for medical treatment.

The operation is still ongoing. Earlier, a soldier injured during an exchange of fire in the Battal sector succumbed to his injuries. The White Knight Corps expressed condolences, saluting the ultimate sacrifice of L/Nk Subhash Chander. This incident follows a recent surge in terror attacks in Jammu, including attacks on army convoys and encounters in Doda and Udhampur districts.
