Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday announced comprehensive plans for the development of the Vishnupad Temple and Mahabodhi Temple corridors in Bihar. The government aims to transform these historic sites into world-class pilgrimage and tourist destinations.

Modeled after the successful Kashi Vishwanath Temple Corridor, these development projects are positioned to boost tourism, create jobs, and stimulate investment. "Tourism has always been a pivotal part of our civilization," Sitharaman said in her Union Budget 2024-25 speech.

She also announced plans for Rajgir, Nalanda, and Odisha. In the broader strategy of 'Purvodaya,' these initiatives will further the all-round development of Eastern India, incorporating human resources, infrastructure, and economic opportunities.
