In a strategic move, Congress announced on Sunday the appointment of MLA Rama Chandra Kadam as its Legislature party leader in the Odisha Assembly. Ashok Das has been named the deputy Congress Legislature Party leader, and Lieutenant Colonel Dr. CS Raazen Ekka (Retd) will take on the role of Congress chief whip.

The 17th Odisha Assembly's inaugural session is scheduled to commence on July 22. During this session, Chief Minister and Finance Minister Mohan Charan Majhi is set to present the State budget on July 25. Addressing the media, Chief Minister Majhi stated, "The BJP will table the first budget in the Odisha Assembly on July 25, aimed at empowering every community in the state."

The Chief Minister also emphasized a new era of transparency and accessibility, stating that citizens will have direct interaction opportunities with him, a significant shift from previous years. Praising the BJP's first-ever government in Odisha, Majhi remarked, "With Lord Jagannath's blessings, we envision a 'Nua Odisha,' where direct communication with the CM is possible."

Notably, in the recent 18th Lok Sabha elections, the BJP ended Naveen Patnaik's 24-year tenure by securing 20 seats and claiming a majority in the state assembly with 78 out of 147 seats, whereas the BJD managed only 51 seats.
