The Kejriwal government has released Rs 100 crore for its funded Delhi University colleges in the second quarter. Higher Education Minister Atishi approved the disbursement, the Office of the Higher Education Minister in Delhi announced in a press release.

A budgetary provision of Rs 400 crore has been earmarked for these colleges in the 2024-25 financial year. The funds allocated to these institutions have more than tripled since the Kejriwal administration took office, reflecting a steadfast commitment to education.

Higher Education Minister Atishi affirmed, 'Education has consistently been the biggest priority for the Kejriwal government. Each year, the largest share of the budget is devoted to education.' Apart from focusing on schools, the government has also bolstered higher education by establishing three new universities and expanding existing ones.

The 12 fully funded Delhi University colleges play a vital role in the capital's higher education landscape. The budget for these colleges has risen from Rs 132 crore in 2014-15 to approximately Rs 400 crore this year. Despite financial mismanagement issues, the government is committed to preventing disruptions for teachers and students, and has allocated Rs 100 crore to ensure their welfare, including medical and pension benefits.

The colleges benefiting from this funding include Acharya Narendra Dev College, Aditi Mahavidyalaya, Bhagini Nivedita College, Bhaskaracharya College, and several others.
