Former Minister and BRS leader Harish Rao has criticized the Telangana government for its "negligence and slow action" regarding the recent breach of the Pedda Vagu project near Gummadivalli, Aswaraopeta mandal, which led to an estimated Rs 100 crore in losses.

Rao emphasized that the disaster could have been prevented had the district collector and irrigation officials heeded farmers' warnings and acted promptly. He questioned why project gates were not opened despite water overflow for several hours, and why only two of the three gates were eventually lifted.

He further condemned the state's delayed response, demanding compensation for affected farmers and a high-level inquiry to determine the incident's causes. Immediate assistance, including free seeds and fertilizers, as well as funds for those who lost livestock, is urgently needed, Rao stated.
