In a fierce gunfight on Tuesday, July 16, three Hmar militants were killed by police in the Cachar district of Assam. The encounter occurred in the Bhuban Hills area while the police were escorting the apprehended militants. Another group of militants began firing, leading to a deadly exchange.

Kangkan Jyoti Saikia, Deputy Inspector General (South Range), stated that the police swiftly retaliated when attacked. The militants, who were critically injured during the skirmish, were immediately rushed to Sonai Hospital and subsequently transferred to Silchar Medical College Hospital. However, upon arrival, doctors declared them dead.

State Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed the fatalities via social media, noting the recovery of two AK rifles, another rifle, and a pistol. The operation aimed at locating more militants in the region resulted in the confiscation of significant weaponry. (ANI)
