Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Sunday underscored the need to educate the younger generation on the historical significance of Kharchi Puja and its fourteen deities. He pointed out that without awareness of its rich history, the festival's tradition may remain misunderstood.

Inaugurating the seven-day Kharchi Puja at the Chaturdash Devta temple in old Agartala, Saha stated, "India's culture and traditions are among the world's oldest. The new generation must learn about Kharchi Puja's background for the festival's legacy to persist." He announced a public holiday on July 20, the festival's final day, to encourage wider participation.

Reflecting on his childhood memories of the festival, Saha recalled the difficult river crossings required to attend, emphasizing the state's significant development since then. He explained that three of the fourteen deities are worshiped regularly, while the remaining are venerated during the festival's seven days, underlining the necessity of informing future generations.

Saha also noted that such cultural traditions fortify national unity and brotherhood. The event saw attendance from other dignitaries including area MLA Ratan Chakraborty and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury.
