IIT Guwahati Celebrates 26th Convocation, 2150 Students Graduate
Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati held its 26th Convocation Ceremony, where 2,150 students received degrees. The event featured notable speakers, including Zoho Corporation CEO Dr. Sridhar Vembu. Top academic performers were recognized, and the institute's recent achievements and initiatives were highlighted.

On Sunday, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati awarded degrees to 2,150 students during its 26th Convocation Ceremony. The recipients included 1,682 male and 468 female students.
Among the graduates, 932 were from Bachelors of Technology and Bachelors of Design programs, while 277 were from PhD & Dual (Masters + PhD). The rest included 182 Master of Science (MSc) students, 54 Master of Arts (MA) students, 34 MS (Research) and 16 MBA students. Notably, Vedant Gaurang Shah, a B.Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering, received the President of India Gold Medal. Additionally, Rethyam Gupta, B.Tech. in Engineering Physics, was awarded the Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma Gold Medal.
Special recognitions were also given to Arpita Ray, awarded the Governor of Assam PG Gold Medal for her M.Tech. in Geotechnical Engineering, and Pranshu Kandoi, awarded the Governor of Assam UG Gold Medal. The ceremony's Chief Guest was Padma Shri awardee Dr. Sridhar Vembu, Founder and CEO of Zoho Corporation, while Prof. Gautam Barua, Former Director of IIT Guwahati, attended as the Guest of Honor.
The event was presided over virtually by Dr. Rajiv I Modi, Chairman of the Board of Governors, with Dr. Prahlada Rama Rao, Acting Chairperson, delivering the welcome address. In his Convocation Report, Prof. Devendra Jalihal, Director of IIT Guwahati, emphasized the institution's milestone achievements in tech transfer, patent filings, and quality research publications. He highlighted IIT Guwahati's commitment to innovation and excellence.
Prof. Jalihal also noted the institute's recognition in various rankings and its efforts in fostering a research-driven culture. Chief Guest Dr. Vembu encouraged graduates to embrace challenges and innovate, sharing insights from his own journey. Meanwhile, Guest of Honor Prof. Barua urged the graduates to explore diverse interests and continue achieving success.
IIT Guwahati has a rich history of drawing talented students nationwide and aims to become a top global institution. It is committed to interdisciplinary research and fostering a start-up culture under NEP 2020 policies. IIT Guwahati also leads the 'Digital Nerve Centre' project to enhance education in the Northeast region.
