Shimla Prepares for Grand Kargil Vijay Diwas Celebration at Ridge Ground

The 25th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas will witness grand celebrations on July 26 at the historic Ridge Ground in Shimla. Supported by the district administration, the Department of Soldier Welfare, and the Army, the commemorative event aims to pay homage to the heroes of the Kargil War.
Deputy Commissioner Shimla, Anupam Kashyap disclosed this information during a recent meeting. Due to potential bad weather, the venue has been shifted to the Gaiety Theater. Special parades and weapon displays will be organized at the Ridge Maidan with Army support. Kashyap assured that the administration will ensure a large-scale and grand celebration, inviting and honoring the families of Kargil heroes and ex-servicemen.
Schools and colleges will conduct programs to inspire the youth to remember the sacrifices of brave soldiers and commit to national service. Kashyap emphasized that Kargil Vijay Diwas celebrates the courage and patriotism of the soldiers, reflecting the spirit of selfless national service. He stated that today's meeting was preliminary, and final program outlines will be determined in the next week's session with additional district officials and soldiers' welfare officers.
Observed annually on July 26 in India, Kargil Vijay Diwas commemorates the victory of Operation Vijay in 1999. The day marks the end of the Kargil War between India and Pakistan, highlighting the Indian forces' successful reclamation of strategic positions in the Kargil sector. The day honors the sacrifices of soldiers who laid down their lives in defense of the nation and celebrates the strength and determination of the Indian armed forces, reaffirming the nation's commitment to its sovereignty and integrity.
