In a fervent appeal, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit the troubled state of Manipur and address the pressing issues faced by its residents. Gandhi, through a five-minute video shared on X, emphasized the dire need for peace and unity in Manipur, which he claimed is 'divided into two parts.'

Gandhi, visiting the state for the third time since the outbreak of violence, lamented the lack of progress in improving the situation. 'Thousands of families are living in relief camps. Houses are burning, innocent lives are in danger,' he said, calling on PM Modi to listen to the people and appeal for peace.

During his visit to a relief camp, Gandhi engaged with affected residents, many of whom voiced concerns about their security and the desire to return home. He also criticized the absence of local leaders such as Chief Minister Biren Singh and Home Minister Amit Shah, who have yet to visit the victims. 'Violence is hurting everybody. Thousands of families have been harmed,' Gandhi noted, urging for immediate government intervention.

Addressing a press conference, Gandhi expressed his disappointment over the state's ongoing strife and called for solidarity. 'We need to get out of this suffering as soon as possible,' he said, stressing that violence and hatred will not provide a solution. The conflict in Manipur, which erupted on May 3 last year, follows rallies by the All Tribals Students Union protesting the Meitei community's inclusion in the Scheduled Tribe category.
