On Thursday, Karnataka Bharatiya Janata Party President BY Vijayendra launched a scathing attack on the state government over the surge in dengue cases, criticizing their lack of action and concern over the issue. Vijayendra expressed his frustration, highlighting that even a nine-month-old baby in his constituency succumbed to the disease.

'This government is not at all bothered. The concerned minister is sitting in Bengaluru and not touring the state. The state govt has not taken this issue seriously,' Vijayendra remarked, promising that the BJP would bring up the issue in the Assembly.

Vijayendra also took aim at Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, accusing him of prioritizing real estate development over the welfare of the state. He condemned Shivakumar's plans to rename Ramanagara district to Bengaluru South, suggesting an ulterior motive linked to real estate interests.

In response, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has instructed officials to target mosquito breeding sites and allocated specific hospital beds for dengue cases. Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao assured that the government is monitoring the situation and making efforts to control the spread and reduce fatalities.

'We are working full time to monitor the situation, and all departments have been instructed to keep reducing sources of mosquito breeding. Asha workers and volunteers are conducting house-to-house inspections to control the spread and prevent deaths,' the Health Minister said.

The number of dengue cases has surged with the onset of monsoon rains in Bengaluru and across Karnataka, prompting urgent action from health authorities.
