In a significant crackdown, Delhi Police and immigration authorities have arrested multiple agents exploiting visa-on-arrival policies for illegal immigration. These agents orchestrated complex routes to smuggle Indian nationals into countries like the USA and Canada.

A detailed investigation revealed that common tactics include sending passengers with fake Schengen visas to European countries like Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan, from where they are routed through Central American nations such as Guatemala and Costa Rica. These routes, intended for tourists, are being misused for illegal immigration, a senior officer confirmed.

Usha Rangnani, DCP of IGI Airport, disclosed that Delhi Police had apprehended 11 agents in the first half of 2024. In one case, a passenger was deported from the USA after entering illegally via a 'donkey route' that spanned multiple countries. The agents charged the passenger Rs. 20 lakhs and confiscated his passport, leading to severe hardships during the journey.

The investigation noted that 'donkey routes' are also used for illegal immigration into Asian countries. Two agents from Rajasthan were arrested for smuggling a passenger into Malaysia through Thailand. The passenger was caught upon return to India due to a fake visa stamp on his passport.

The IGI Airport Police have arrested 108 fraudulent agents as part of ongoing efforts to counter visa and passport fraud. Their proactive and collaborative measures aim to secure national borders and maintain the integrity of immigration processes.

Authorities urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to help combat this growing menace.
