The Badrinath National Highway in Uttarakhand's Chamoli district, which was blocked due to heavy debris falling from the hill onto the road in Bhanerpani, Joshimath, has been restored for traffic after hours of relentless efforts on Thursday.
Authorities confirmed the reopening on social media. Uttarakhand Police posted on X, "The blocked Badrinath National Highway near Bhanerpani in Chamoli has opened for traffic." The road was initially obstructed on Wednesday due to a landslide near the Patal Ganga Langsi tunnel on the highway.
Recent heavy rainfall in parts of Uttarakhand triggered multiple landslides, causing debris to block the highway at several points. On July 5, traffic on the highway in Chamoli was also disrupted due to debris in two places. Local authorities and police quickly launched operations to clear the debris, resuming traffic within a few hours.
