On June 22, 2024, at Raj Bhavan Mumbai, Governor of Maharashtra Shri Ramesh Bais released a book titled Gateways to the Sea: Historic Ports and Docks of Mumbai Region. Published by the Publications Division of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, this book features 18 articles by renowned authors, compiled by the Maritime Mumbai Museum Society (MMMS).

During the event, Governor Bais felicitated MMMS, the 17 contributing authors, and two editors, encouraging Mumbai's citizens to explore their ancient maritime history. The book presentation at Durbar Hall in Raj Bhawan was a collaborative effort between the Publications Division and the Asiatic Society, attended by historians and history enthusiasts.

Gateways to the Sea offers an authoritative compilation of articles on the history of various ports and docks in the Mumbai region, including Sopara, Vasai, Versova, Mahim, Kalyan, Thane, Panvel, Alibag, Chaul, Mandad, and Janjira. It also details the development of modern ports and docks like Mazagon Dock, Mumbai Port, Bombay Dock, Sassoon Dock, and Ferry Wharf (Bhaucha Dhakka). Contributors to the book include historians, researchers, maritime experts, conservation architects, and writers.

Notable attendees included Captain KD Bahl, President of the Maritime Mumbai Museum Society, Vice Admiral (Retd) Indrasheel Rao, Editor Dr. Shefali Shah, Vice President Anita Yewale, Deputy Director of Publications Division Sangeeta Godbole, and the contributing writers. The publication of this book marks a significant milestone in raising awareness about Mumbai's rich maritime heritage.
