Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) RR Swain said that they are mulling over invoking the Enemies Agents Act to dismantle the ecosystem of terror in the region. This stringent law provides for the trial punishment of enemy agents and persons committing certain offences with intent to aid the enemy and permits life imprisonment or the death penalty for those found aiding or abetting Pakistani terrorists.
"I was discussing with a top law enforcement official whether we should be invoking the Enemies Agents Act. Perhaps, it is not implemented anywhere in Jammu and Kashmir," DGP Swain said. He was speaking after inaugurating the newly constructed building of Cyber Police Station in Jammu.
His statement came in the wake of a series of terror incidents in Jammu and Kashmir in the last two weeks. DGP Swain expressed concern over the internet becoming the medium for sustaining terrorism in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
"...The internet is becoming the medium of sustaining terrorism and separatism in J&K. If I give such a statement, I am not too far from the truth... Cybercrime is broad in its context. It can be involved in all the other conventional crimes..." (ANI)
