It’s now safe to say New Amsterdam Season 2 is happening. Wondering why? You may not know much before the airing of Season 1 finale, there was an announcement from NBC that the American medical drama television series would be renewed for another season.

Another reason why New Amsterdam Season 2 soon got a green signal even before the premiere of first season’s finale is its growing fanbase that compelled the network to continue with it. Although there has been a huge difference in figures between pilot episode and finale, still accumulating 5.54 million just only from the United States is a good sign to continue. The series garnered ‘11.9 million viewers overall in Live+7 Nielsens,’ which makes the series the second highest-rated new scripted show within the 18-49 demo. This was shared by Janet Montgomery over Instagram, who plays the role of Dr Lauren Bloom in the series.

The continuation of New Amsterdam for Season 2 is surely a piece of good news but plenty of updates, mainly on the production and plot, are kept under wraps. No further comments have been made ever since the announcement of its renewal made. Just on May 14, when NBC dropped the finale, fans were so eager for another season of the show. One of the reason is finale ended with a big cliffhanger and it seems several lives were on the verge of destruction when a fatal crash happened at the end that also severely injured Dr Max (Ryan Eggold).

But we know the plot is never complete without him. So, it’s unlikely that he will be killed in the crash. It’s true that one of the series’ executive producers, Peter Horton revealed in a conversation with New York Post that someone would certainly die but he didn’t reveal the name of the character.

As far as the production of New Amsterdam Season 2 is concerned, Ryan Eggold said to TV Insider, “Everybody is really enjoying working together and it's a great group of folks. We’re happy that we get to keep doing it and keep developing the show — learning about what’s working and also how we can make it better. These stories are really connecting with people.”

The release date of New Amsterdam Season 2 is yet to be covered despite its renewal for the second season. Stay tuned with Devdiscourse to get latest updates on the medical drama series.
