The Digambar Jain temple in Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh, has issued a dress code for women visiting the sacred site, encouraging them to wear modest clothing and cover their heads. According to temple officials, this move is designed to uphold the sanctity and decorum within the temple.
Committee member Ankush Jain emphasized the guidelines promote devotion and discipline, not curtail personal freedom. While a sign displaying the dress code is now visible outside the temple, women in western attire are being respectfully asked to comply with these rules before entering.
While some argue the directive aids in preserving cultural values against modern lifestyle changes, others dismiss it as a publicity stunt. Community voices like Naveen Jain suggest the new policy merely reinforces customs already followed by most female visitors.
