Preparations for the 2027 Simhastha Kumbh Mela in Nashik have accelerated after Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis's visit in March, but disputes have arisen over the event's official name.
During the visit, representatives from Trimbakeshwar religious orders proposed renaming the festival to Trimbakeshwar-Nashik Simhastha Kumbh Mela. However, Nashik akharas argued for retaining the current name, raising concerns in a meeting at the Nashik Municipal Corporation.
Officials are also tackling infrastructural and organizational challenges, as expectations grow that the 2027 event will attract significantly larger crowds than previous editions. State officials are set to meet ongoing demands, including better facilities along the Narmada River and enhanced security for the monsoon-held celebration.
