The Madras High Court has granted interim anticipatory bail to comedian Kunal Kamra. The comedian faced legal scrutiny over a performance in Mumbai where he made jokes about Maharashtra's Deputy Chief Minister, Eknath Shinde.
The court's decision requires Kamra to post a bond, satisfying the judicial magistrate at Vanur in Tamil Nadu. Justice Sunder Mohan issued a notice to the Khar Police, scheduling the next hearing for April 7.
The comedian, now residing in Tamil Nadu, received backlash from Shiv Sena supporters. They vandalized the comedy club following Kamra's satirical song about Shinde, leading to a police complaint by Shiv Sena MLA Murji Patel.
