Stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra has sought legal recourse from the Madras High Court, seeking transit anticipatory bail amid escalating tensions over his latest performance aimed at Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. The comedian, originally from Mumbai but now residing in Tamil Nadu, faces potential arrest.

Kamra, who moved to Tamil Nadu in 2021, argued in his petition that he fears arrest by the Mumbai Police after being summoned twice on account of his controversial performance. The 36-year-old's recent show at the Habitat Comedy Club in Mumbai stirred significant controversy.

The performance, which included a parody song mocking Shinde, sparked backlash from Shiv Sena supporters. The situation escalated when supporters vandalised the club and surrounding hotel on Sunday night. Kamra has been booked for allegedly defamatory remarks following a complaint by Shiv Sena MLA Murji Patel.
