The preparations for the 2027 Simhastha Kumbh Mela in Nashik are well underway following Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis' visit on March 23. However, a disagreement is simmering over the naming of the religious event.

During the Chief Minister's visit, religious leaders from the Trimbakeshwar akharas suggested renaming the festival as the Trimbakeshwar-Nashik Simhastha Kumbh Mela. However, Nashik akharas argue the name should remain unchanged.

In attempts to influence state decision-making, Nashik akharas are also demanding representation in the newly proposed Simhasth Kumbh Mela Authority and the allocation of over 500 acres of land for the festival. The Nashik Collector, Jalaj Sharma, indicated that an official decision regarding the name will be determined after government review of the records. The Kumbh Mela, held once every 12 years, is slated for July 14 to September 25, 2027, on the Godavari riverbanks.
