In a significant shift, digital media in India surpassed traditional television in 2024, marking the largest segment in the media and entertainment industry. According to the FICCI-EY report, digital media contributed a remarkable 32 percent to the sector's total revenues.
The report anticipates digital media will be the first segment in the M&E sector to surpass Rs 1 trillion in advertising revenues by 2026. The overall Indian M&E sector is projected to grow over 7 percent annually, reaching over Rs 3 lakh crore by 2027.
The sector's evolution is characterized by innovative business models, strategic alliances, and industry consolidation. Despite a slowdown from the previous year's growth due to declines in subscription revenues and outsourced work, advertising, particularly on digital platforms, has remained a robust revenue driver.
