Renowned French actor Gerard Depardieu strongly denied allegations of sexual assault levied against him by two women during his appearance at the Paris criminal court. Depardieu, known for his prolific career in film, stated, "I am not a person who would grope in the metro." His attorney, Jeremy Assous, described the claims as part of a "conspiracy," according to reports from FrancetvInfo and Variety.
One accuser, a set decorator on the film 'The Green Shutters,' alleged that Depardieu sexually assaulted and harassed her in 2021, recounting an incident where he purportedly grabbed her and made obscene remarks. Depardieu countered the claims in court, stating he merely grabbed her hips to prevent slipping.
A second accuser, who worked as an assistant on the same film, accused Depardieu of a similar assault on August 31, 2021, and filed a complaint on March 21, 2024. Furthermore, Depardieu faces an ongoing investigation since December 16, 2020, regarding separate allegations of rape and sexual assault made by an actress in 2018.
The trial, drawing significant media coverage, was initially set for October 28 but was postponed due to Depardieu's health issues.
