The anticipated horror flick, 'The Mummy', directed by Lee Cronin, has announced the addition of Laia Costa to its cast. She will join Jack Reynor in what promises to be a fresh iteration of this iconic monster tale, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. The film, produced by New Line Cinema and backed by horror stalwarts Atomic Monster and Blumhouse, begins production in Ireland this week, with an expected release date of April 17, 2026.
While the plot details remain tightly guarded, insider reports suggest that Costa and Reynor will portray a married couple. Together with their daughter, they will confront a horrifying ancient mummy. Cronin revealed to The Hollywood Reporter last December, "This will be unlike any Mummy movie you ever laid eyeballs on before. I'm digging deep into the earth to raise something very ancient and very frightening."
The production is co-financed by Atomic Monster and Blumhouse, with James Wan, Jason Blum, and John Keville producing. Executive producers include Michael Clear, Judson Scott, and Macdara Kelleher. Laia Costa, celebrated for her work in the German thriller 'Victoria', brings additional European cinematic flair to the project. She has previously shone in roles in 'Newness', 'Life Itself', and 'Lullaby', earning a Goya Award for Best Actress. Most recently, she appeared in Amazon's fantasy series 'Wheel of Time' as Moghedien.
