The Punjab Assembly has taken decisive action to address the alarming depletion of water levels in the state. On Tuesday, a resolution was passed unanimously in the assembly, urging the state government to adopt immediate conservation measures, while voicing concerns over the lack of assistance from the central government.
Water Resources Minister Brinder Kumar Goyal emphasized the state's initiatives, accusing the Union government of neglecting its responsibility in aiding Punjab's water conservation efforts. According to Goyal, the Union consistently reports on declining water levels but fails to provide necessary support.
Highlighting the financial aspect, Goyal revealed that Punjab requires a Rs 17,000 crore investment to revamp its water courses. In contrast to previous administrations, the current government has increased canal infrastructure spending, aiming to make significant improvements in water conservation and distribution across agricultural areas.
