An FIR has been filed against stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra in Maharashtra's Thane district for allegedly defaming Shiv Sena head and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, as per the police on Tuesday.
Booked under section 356(2) (defamation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Kamra's case stems from a complaint lodged by a Shiv Sena functionary at Dombivli police station. The complaint indicated that a video clip, accessible via an online link, contained defamatory content about Shinde.
Kamra's 'traitor' jibe, referencing the 2022 Shiv Sena split, was made during a show at a Mumbai hotel basement studio, sparking outrage. The resulting backlash included studio vandalism by Shiv Sena workers, leading to police interventions and arrests.
