In a significant move, authorities in Sambhal have denied permission for the annual Neja Mela, traditionally observed in memory of invader Syed Salar Masud Ghazi, citing historical grievances. Security was heightened around Shahwazpur Sura Nagla village to prevent any unauthorized gatherings as the event was scheduled for Tuesday.
Additional Superintendent of Police Shreesh Chandra emphasized the inappropriateness of commemorating a figure associated with historical invasions and looting, revealing that the local population has largely abandoned the practice. "No gathering or event is happening at the site today," Chandra informed reporters.
Amid simmering communal tensions following earlier violence during mosque-related protests, the region remains closely monitored. Security forces continue to ensure peace, with authorities ready to take strict actions against any attempts to disrupt public order or spread misinformation on social media.
