In a developing clash between comedy and politics, the Mumbai Police have taken action against stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra. He is under scrutiny for using his platform to allegedly make derogatory remarks about Maharashtra's Deputy Chief Minister, Eknath Shinde.
The controversy began after Kamra parodied a beloved Hindi song, casting aspersions on Shinde's political journey. The act, deemed offensive by Shiv Sena members, has led to significant unrest, culminating in the vandalization of the Habitat Comedy Club where Kamra performed. The Khar police registered complaints both against Kamra for defamation and the Shiv Sena workers for their destructive response.
The incident escalated quickly, resulting in the arrest of Shiv Sena functionary Rahul Kanal and 11 associates for ransacking the venue. However, a local court swiftly granted them bail. As the investigation unfolds, Kamra has been summoned to appear before authorities to address the charges.
