Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis issued a stern demand for an apology from stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra on Monday, following remarks made during a performance that allegedly insulted Deputy CM Eknath Shinde.
Speaking to reporters at the state legislature complex, Fadnavis condemned Kamra's actions during a stand-up routine in Mumbai where Kamra parodied Shinde, calling him a 'traitor.' The CM criticized Kamra for the misuse of satire and stated that while freedom of speech is important, it does not extend to deliberate insults on those in constitutional positions.
In response to the uproar and vandalism by Shiv Sena members, an FIR was registered against Kamra. The controversy highlights the ongoing tension within Maharashtra's political and cultural landscape, as both sides continue to clash over issues of freedom of expression and political satire.
