Geet Gawai, a symbol of significant life events, notably weddings, was inscribed on UNESCO's list of Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2016.
Upon arrival, Modi was greeted by Mauritius's Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam and other dignitaries. The visit aims at bolstering relationships and exploring new collaborative sectors. Modi's itinerary includes meetings with President Dharam Gokhool and other senior leaders, highlighting the strategic importance of India-Mauritius relations.
