Assam is set to host a grand cultural spectacle with over 8,000 young dancers from tea garden communities performing the traditional Jhumur dance. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that dignitaries including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and ambassadors from 60 countries will witness this event.
The Jhumuir Binandini programme, aimed at highlighting Assam's rich cultural heritage, will take place next week. Participants will receive cash incentives, with more than 8,500 youths engaging in the event, set to add a record-breaking note to the state's history.
The initiative also includes the establishment of cultural clubs within tea gardens, promising to further promote cultural activities. Sarma emphasized the importance of these efforts in showcasing Assam's traditional arts on a global stage, underscoring the 200th anniversary of the region's tea industry.
