Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has officially opened the Agartala Book Fair, a 13-day event held on the outskirts of the state's capital. The CM highlighted the importance of offering books as gifts during social events rather than bouquets, suggesting it could foster reading habits and support the literary economy.
The Chief Minister noted a consistent increase in both participants and sales at the fair each year, interpreting it as a positive sign for society. He pointed out that the state government aims to nurture a culture of reading, given the role of books as essential sources of knowledge.
Furthermore, CM Saha explained the decision to advance the fair to January from its traditional February-March schedule, citing the need to accommodate students who would otherwise be preoccupied with examinations during those months.
