The Assam government has taken a significant step by declaring May 13 as the 'Day against Superstitious Beliefs'. An official notification by Governor Laxman Prasad Acharya emphasizes the importance of combating superstitions harmful to society.
This initiative, in memory of social activist Birubal Rabha, will engage multiple state departments. Educational institutions will focus on scientific thinking, while the Health and Family Welfare department will address health-related superstitions using mass media.
The initiative aims to cover areas with historical instances of witch hunts, supported by community groups. The Science and Technology department along with Aryabhatta Science Centres will mobilize efforts statewide to promote rational thinking.
