The Delhi Zoo saw a significant uptick in visitors on New Year's Day, with over 25,000 people flocking to the iconic attraction. This marked a 39% increase compared to previous years, according to zoo officials.
In preparation for the influx, the Delhi Zoo implemented several measures to manage the surge. Additional gates were opened for entry and exit, enhancing the usual access points. Enhanced security measures, including upgraded CCTV surveillance and additional staff, were also put in place to ensure safety and order.
Zoo Director Sanjeev Kumar highlighted the crucial role of police in managing traffic around the zoo, particularly on Mathura Road, to facilitate smooth access. The National Zoological Park, located in the capital and spanning 176 acres, remains a prime attraction since its establishment in 1952.
