Director Hansal Mehta has stirred up controversy by accusing producer Naga Vamsi of borrowing heavily from his successful web series 'Scam' for Vamsi's latest Telugu hit, 'Lucky Baskhar'. The accusations followed a roundtable discussion where Vamsi criticized the Hindi film industry's focus on affluent Mumbai neighborhoods.

Mehta, reacting to Vamsi's comments on social media, expressed both disappointment over the perceived arrogance and happiness that a story like 'Scam' found resonance in a different linguistic market. 'Lucky Baskhar', set during the 1990s, narrates the story of a lower-middle-class man who turns to financial scams.

The 'Scam' series, famous for uncovering significant financial scandals in Indian history, includes the infamous 1992 stock market scandal and the 2003 stamp paper racket. The verbal exchange continued with other industry figures, including 'Pathaan' director Siddharth Anand, joining the fray to defend the reputation of Mumbai's film scene.
