Farewell to Mewar: A Royal Legacy's Last Journey

In a solemn ceremony held Monday, the mortal remains of Mahendra Singh Mewar, the former Member of Parliament and a distinguished figure of Mewar's erstwhile royal family, were consigned to the flames. His passing marks the end of a significant generational legacy in Udaipur.
Mewar, who breathed his last at a private hospital on Sunday at the age of 83, was laid to rest at Mahasatiya in Aiyad. The funeral was conducted by his son, Vishvaraj Singh Mewar, a BJP MLA from Nathdwara, and witnessed by his grandson, Devjaditya Singh.
The ceremonial procession started from Mewar's residence at Samor Bagh Palace, drawing large crowds through key landmarks of Udaipur like Jagdish Chowk and Bada Bazar. In a show of respect, traders across several city markets closed shops. Notable attendees included Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma and BJP leader Madan Rathore, among others who paid tribute with floral offerings.
