In a remarkable tale of early achievement, Anish Sarkar from north Kolkata has become the youngest rated chess player at just three years old. While many peers his age were engaged in cartoons or toys, Anish was drawn to chess, setting a new record in the world of competitive chess.
This young prodigy made his competitive debut at the West Bengal U-9 Open, securing 5.5 of 8 points and facing rated opponents. Anish was also featured in a simultaneous exhibition match with Grandmaster Arjun Erigaisi, and his effort against experienced players in further tournaments culminated in a FIDE rating.
His achievement has placed him among India's burgeoning young chess talents, such as R Praggnanandhaa and D Gukesh. Guided by coach Dibyendu Barua, Anish's potential continues to grow as he balances intense training with the enjoyment of the game.
