Renowned economist and scholar Bibek Debroy, Chairman of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EAC-PM), has passed away, a senior EAC-PM official confirmed.
Debroy, who was admitted to AIIMS on Thursday night, succumbed to complications related to subacute intestinal obstruction, alongside existing conditions of hypertension and diabetes, according to sources at the hospital.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences, praising Debroy as a 'towering scholar' with significant contributions to India's intellectual landscape, including his work on ancient texts and public policy. Modi highlighted Debroy's extensive academic career and remembered him fondly for his passion and insights.
