Born in September 1910 on a Georgian farm, Whitehead has lived a life marked by abstaining from smoking and drinking, which she believes, alongside good genetics, has contributed significantly to her longevity. Now residing in Greenville West Salem, Whitehead expressed to the New Castle News in September 2023 that she has no specific target for how long she wishes to live, but humbly stated, "I'll live as long as the Lord lets me."
