'Wicked' star Cynthia Erivo has voiced her displeasure with a fan-altered movie poster that obscures her face, highlighting her deep commitment to her role as Elphaba in the film. Erivo called the alteration disrespectful, emphasizing it detracts from the homage to the original Broadway poster.
According to a report by People, Erivo's comments come after Universal Pictures released a poster for the Jon M. Chu-directed adaptation of 'Wicked,' designed to honor the Broadway classic's promotional image. The fan-edited version, however, conceals Erivo's eyes and a significant part of her face, aligning it more closely with the Broadway illustration.
Erivo, sharing her thoughts via Instagram Story, underscored the importance of maintaining her image in the poster, stating, "Our poster is an homage, not an imitation...to edit my face and hide my eyes is to erase me." She described the alteration as offensive, comparing it to other degrading treatments she has faced as an artist.
