The fireworks industry in West Bengal is on the brink of breaking last year's impressive sales milestone of Rs 8,000 crore, according to the All Bengal Fireworks Makers and Sellers Organisation. A significant rise in festive demand has fueled optimism for surpassing previous records, as explained by spokesperson Babla Roy.
Roy highlighted the role of 72 'Bazi Bazars' across the state, which have become major attractions since October 1. Organized in collaboration with the state government, these fairs display fireworks from 232 licensed manufacturers, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental standards mandated by central agencies such as the PESO and NEERI.
Authorities have stepped up efforts to promote green fireworks through training initiatives and stringent monitoring at the fairs. Representatives from the West Bengal Pollution Control Board, along with local officials, are ensuring that only certified green fireworks are sold, effectively regulating noise levels and environmental safety.
